Hopeless

Verse 1

It was all an illusion, I've seen from the beginning
A desperate hope for those who cope
When you think you should be winning
But in reality, it's just a defense
For those who pose a threat
A silent alarm to counter pain
Installed at your heart's request

Chorus

Hope can be deceiving
When your heart's the one that's grieving
Need to step back and wonder
If what you're after is none other
Than emotions that are real
Or just your heart's way to cope, until
Someone else comes along
And changes how you feel

Verse 2

It was never in the cards, for you & I to go far
So I'm sitting here wondering
Why I even played those odds?
Why I bothered to give chase?
Knowing I'll soon be replaced
That's right
It was false hope, that kept my mind in the race
